Reverse auctions on Clyro

Invite-only price discovery.
Not a public marketplace.

Clyro auctions are an opt-in follow-on to Request Match. When a buyer wants a second pricing round, Clyro invites the top three shortlisted exporters into a 24-hour ranked bid — never the open market.

Real bidding launches in Q3 2026. The concept is locked in now so exporters and buyers know what to expect when they enter Clyro's sourcing flow.

What makes Clyro auctions different

  • ·Closed pool. Only 3-5 pre-shortlisted exporters per round.
  • ·Buyer-initiated. Auction only happens when the buyer asks.
  • ·One downward bid each. No race-to-the-bottom spiral.
  • ·No public listing. Buyer identity stays inside the shortlist.

How it works

From RFQ to auction in five steps.

Every Clyro auction starts as a normal Request Match. The buyer decides whether to escalate to a ranked round after seeing the first batch of quotes.

  1. 01

    Buyer submits Request Match

Standard RFQ. Product, varietal, volume, destination, target window. Optional toggle: 'Open to reverse-auction round if quotes come back above target.' Default off — first-time buyers get the simple flow.

  2. 02

    Clyro auto-shortlists 3-5 verified exporters

Pass/no-pass filter on verified status, country, product, capacity, MOQ. Then a weighted score ranks the passers on certifications, past performance, response rate, and capacity headroom. Top 3-5 are invited. No human curation.

  3. 03

    First-round quotes

Each invited exporter submits a sealed quote. Buyer reviews all quotes side-by-side in their dashboard. Can accept any one outright — no auction needed if the buyer is happy with the first round.

  4. 04

    Optional ranked round (24 hours)

If the buyer is not satisfied with first-round pricing, they trigger a 24-hour ranked round with the same 3-5 exporters. Invited exporters see their position (“you are #2”) and may lower their price ONCE. Single revision per exporter — no infinite spiral. Anti-snipe: if rank changes in the final hour, the round extends by one hour.

  5. 05

    Winner closes deal

Lowest qualifying bid wins. Buyer and winning exporter close the deal through Clyro's standard PO + payment flow. Losing exporters get a structured email — what they bid, what won, what would have moved them up the ranking.

For buyers

Run a second pricing round on your terms.

  • ·You decide whether to escalate to a ranked round. No surprise auctions.
  • ·Pool stays small — 3-5 named exporters Clyro already verified.
  • ·Your identity stays inside the shortlist. Not published anywhere.
  • ·Standard buyer-pays-nothing model. No Clyro fees on auction outcomes.

For exporters

Compete on price only when you choose to.

  • ·You see the invite before you bid. No surprise drafts into auctions.
  • ·Sealed first round protects your margin — you submit your best price once.
  • ·One downward revision in the ranked round, then it's done. No spiral.
  • ·Lose with feedback — Clyro tells you what would have won. Use it to price the next round.

Questions answered

The decisions we've already made.

  • Can anyone bid on an auction?

No. Auctions are invite-only. Only the 3-5 exporters Clyro auto-shortlists from the original RFQ receive an invitation. The pool is closed — non-shortlisted exporters cannot see the auction, cannot find it through search, cannot bid.

  • Will buyer identities be public?

No. The buyer's company name is visible only to the invited exporters inside the auction. There is no public auction listing, no '/auctions/[id]' page where anonymous visitors can see what was bid or who bid it.

  • What stops race-to-the-bottom pricing?

Structure. Round 1 is sealed-bid — exporters can't see each other's prices, so they quote their honest best. Round 2 is ranked but each exporter can lower their price only ONCE. No infinite undercutting. Anti-snipe: if the rank changes in the final hour, the round extends by one hour and all parties are notified.

  • How are the 3-5 exporters selected?

Automated, fully transparent. Stage 1 is pass/no-pass on hard criteria (verified, country, product, capacity, MOQ). Stage 2 is a weighted score on certifications (30%), past performance (25%), response rate (20%), capacity headroom (15%), and recency (10%). Tie-breaker is random. Full breakdown on the Request Match form.

  • What if fewer than 3 exporters pass the hard criteria?

The RFQ enters an 'expanding' state. Clyro notifies the buyer transparently that we're working to expand the pool — we may onboard new verified exporters in their target origin, or adjust the brief together. No silent fallback to admin discretion.

  • When does the auction feature actually go live?

The shortlisting engine is live now. Standard Request Match runs through it on every submission, with the shortlisted exporters invited to quote. The escalation-to-ranked-round step ships in Q3 2026. Until then, buyers receive sealed quotes from their shortlist and decide directly.
